Glasscubes vs ShareFile

ShareFile alternatives for UK accountants: how Glasscubes compares

If clients find ShareFile confusing, Glasscubes lets them open a secure link and upload or answer without an account or a password. It is priced in pounds from £96 a month, with data in UK data centres. Here is where Glasscubes is the better fit — and where ShareFile is the better buy.

Where Glasscubes is stronger

ShareFile is a mature, general-purpose file sharing and client portal product, used across many industries. For a UK accountancy practice, the question is whether clients should have to log in to a portal at all just to send you their documents.

01

No portal to log in to

Clients answer from a secure link, with no account or password and nothing to install. ShareFile's client portal page says both sides log in to the portal, and describes password protection with optional multi-factor authentication.

02

UK data, pounds and MTD for Income Tax

Data is stored in AWS data centres in the UK, prices are in sterling, and MTD Assist lets clients send their own quarterly updates. ShareFile's pricing page showed US dollars, its portal page lists HIPAA, FINRA, GDPR and SEC compliance support, and the pages we read do not say where data is stored.

03

AI that reads what clients send

AI Assist extracts and summarises figures from P60s, bank statements and dividend vouchers, and flags what is missing. ShareFile's Premium plan lists AI-powered document automation and generation.

04

Chasing on every plan, eSignatures from Professional

Automatic reminders are on every Glasscubes plan, and eSignatures are built in from Professional. ShareFile lists e-signature, requests, tasks and workflow automation on Premium, above its Advanced plan.

Straight about the limits

Where ShareFile is the better buy

Three things worth knowing before you switch, including the cases where ShareFile is the better buy.

  • ShareFile is cheaper for plain file sharing

Its Advanced plan is secure file sharing from $16.50 per user a month on annual billing. For a small team that costs less than our Essential account fee plus per-user price, and if all you need is to send and store files, it may be enough.

  • ShareFile does more than collect documents

Its site also lists a virtual data room, workflow automation and encrypted email from Outlook or Gmail. If you need those, ShareFile is built for them; we are focused on collecting information from clients.

  • Our white-labelled portal is on the top plan

Information requests, reminders and reporting are on every plan, but the white-labelled client portal is on Advantage. ShareFile's portal page says client portals are unlimited at no extra cost.

Worth a look if…

  • Clients find ShareFile confusing

A link per request means nothing to log in to and nothing to install. Keep ShareFile for storing files if you like, and use Glasscubes for the information chase.

  • You work in the UK and want UK data and pounds

Data in UK data centres, priced in pounds, from a UK company.

  • You want files, portal and signatures in one place

Choose ShareFile. It is a broader file-sharing platform than ours, and we would rather say so.
